One of the most recent Foundation projects, but a very important one, is our East European Aid project. Once the "iron curtain" had fallen, it became clear to everyone exactly how badly the years of communist rule had impoverished the nations of East Europe.

While the people in East Germany received prompt aid after reunification, the remaining countries in the former Eastern Bloc are partly still suffering great hardship.

The worst affected are the old and the sick. Ladislaus Pöhm, a retired Lohr schoolteacher, had made it his business to try to remedy this situation. With great personal commitment he helped many people, particularly in Romania and Hungary. For reasons of age he will hand over responsibility to Gerhard Ullrich in 2007.

We frequently receive the most touching letters of thanks and joy for even the smallest gifts. A great deal of aid will still be required in the coming years.

A total of EUR 0.2 Mio. has been donated for this project.
