The Nirmala Health and Social Welfare Centre (10 km from Mangalore) has, since 1962, attended to the health needs of the local people, regardless of caste or creed.
On average, 60 to 70 patients are treated each day as outpatients. Inpatient care is provided mainly for expectant mothers and children (around 550 per year).
In 2022 the Rexroth Foundation, which has supported this project since 1978, funded an urgently needed ultrasound machine and a new generator to reduce the impact of power cuts.
Health and parenting programmes for expectant mothers and further-training courses in adolescent health are also offered.
Total funding 1978 to 2022: EUR 300,000.
